Travel Essentials

Several years ago (pre meeting my husband), I traveled maybe once every year or two. By travel, I mean on a plane or longer than a 3 hour car ride. Now that my husband and I travel more frequently, it’s something I have really enjoyed. I love experiencing new places and all that that entails. We recently traveled to St. John and have a few more trips planned in the coming months. As I was packing for St. John, I considered the fact that anything I may have forgotten, or wish I had would likely not be as easy to find or buy as it had been on other trips. Needless to say, let the overpacking begin. I wanted to share a few of my must pack items for traveling.

New Travel Purchases

First things first, portable iPhone charger. I’ve been through my fair share of portable iPhone chargers and this one by far is the best. I charged it up before leaving and it lasted the entire trip before it died. Can you believe that? It will be going with me on any and every trip/event from here on out.

Scout Weekender Beach bag with plastic pouch. I had had a small beach bag that I received as a college graduation present. It’s cute, but barely holds anything and isn’t good for travel. This waterproof bag is amazing! It held 3 beach towels, water bottles, sunscreen, waterproof pouch, books, and snacks with room to spare. It was perfect. I also loved the pouch as it fit IDs, iPhone Charger, wallet, sunglasses, chapstick etc. I could grab that pouch and move it from bag to bag.

Travel Favorites

Truth be told, I use this sound machine at home every day which is why can’t leave it behind when we travel. I can’t sleep without it. It’s cheap and does the trick.

I have really pale skin thanks to my dad, so needless to say, I burn very easily. I struggled for years trying to find a good sunscreen. I would try all different kinds and reapply religiously and still end up with this weird splotchy sunburn. I’m not talking the top of my back or top of my feet when I say splotchy. I’m talking funny shapes of sun burn on my calf, weird spots on my shoulders, and neck. It was the weirdest thing. Sun Bum is the only sunscreen I have found that doesn’t do that. I took this sunscreen on both my honeymoon and St. John where we said we were in the sun’s house because the sun was much stronger there. Thankfully, in wearing this sunscreen, I didn’t get burned!

Another travel essential for me are the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones . I bought these during on a sale during Black Friday last year so I could jam at work and cut out the chatter that would go on at times, but these came in handy on my last few trips. I was able to plug in for movies on the long flights and listen to music on the short flights. They are worth every penny.

Last and most certainly not least, my portable steamer! This little baby has come in handy a dozen times. I use it quite frequently at home because I am just not a huge fan of ironing! This one packs well and is light so there’s more room for actual clothes! One helpful tip is when you are done steaming, empty any left over water out of the steamer and leave the head off until it is completely dry. This helps avoid any mildew from old water sitting in in the steamer.

Now that it’s officially summer, I hope that you all find these items helpful.
